@mechbunnies I went to Krita (free) for a little while but ultimately settled on Clip Studio Paint EX (formerly Manga Studio EX) which has a nominal fee for an impressive set of tools.
I tend to work on small pieces, but these were all CSP or Krita (mostly CSP):

Muneo Saitō -- the PKMN designer most famous for creating Gen 2's Legendary Beasts -- published these creature designs in 2014.
Saitō said she created these monsters for a game, but the designs ultimately went unused... but she didn't specify whether or not the game was Pokemon.

Here’s a follow-up on how the legs turned after very carefully plotting out their movement. It’s possible this level of detail won’t ultimately do much to “sell” the animation, but I’m happy with how it looks vs the very rough movement in my initial sketch.
