i skipped doing a before and after cleaning the black lineart. pixel art is a lesson in labor because once you clean up the base lines, you have to use MORE colors to hide them...im really bad at that part. and then i gotta clean up the dithering

The animation seems more polished too, with less onscreen dithering going on with some of the line work of the animation compared the previous story.
I also don’t mind watching it in the wider aspect ration and in colour.

all the backgrounds were drawn at full resolution and then shrunk down and compressed...
it was so magical to see them transform from normal paintings into that nostalgic dithered look 😭

it's subtle but, do you prefer the soft lighting in pic 1 or the dithering of pic 2? I'm very probably gonna use the lighting of pic 2 going forward as I appreciate the more painterly look but I was looking for what people think

Yes! I wonder if it is the large resolution of the pic or if it's a problem when the dither is used on larger surfaces! I will have to experiment with that!

I wanted to do something quick to play with the Oekaki PaintBBS halftone/dithering. A few years ago I imported the halftone patterns to photoshop as brushes, and I've been missing them. So I made this!!
I miss oekaki but halftones are forever
