In Slavic folklore, firebird is a brightly coloured bird reminiscent of flames, hence the name. In tales, written by Alexander Afanasyev, Karel Jaromír Erben, and others, the bird is a part of a difficult quest.

In Far Eastern folklore, the Moon Rabbit or Moon Hare is said to mix the elixir of immortality with a mortar and pestle. It's easy to see how the phases of the Moon came to be associated with renewal of life, but rabbits? #FolkloreThursday

@Rufellen @ZeeloKitten Waaay back! (You can tell it's way back as I havev my old color scheme) I used to joke Puss in Boots was my father. XD
Though, considering the Fairy Tale is either Italian or French in origin, and my origin is from Scottish folklore, probably unlikely now. XD
I finally watched the Ghibli film Pom Poko and loved it. It's all about tanuki, has a yokai parade, lots of references to Japanese folklore, and a nice message about looking after the environment.

In Irish folklore, pookas are mischievous shapeshifters who take forms of both humans & animals. Usually they gallop around as black horses, knocking down fences & stomping crops. They'll entice drunkards onto their backs for wild, death-defying rides. #FairyTaleTuesday
