In Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, Sneasel was originally pure Dark-type and much more weaselly. Interestingly, his sprite remained brown even in G&S's final build.

Fun fact, the original Sneasel sprite is actually almost a hue reversal of what would become the final sprite (Indigo's opposite is Brown aka dark yellow, while Red's opposite is Cyan)

Also the palette was the same on the beta sprite on the 99 Demo, which I feel was a leftover
