Has anyone else played Beacon Pines recently? It's a really amazing game, I was totally surprised by the events that happened and loved the art style.

It kept my attention the whole time. Definitely left me wanting to play more games like it.

Not really a "fighting game peep" but I've played a few.
Blazblue is a great anime style fighting series with fully voiced VN style story and an option for a simplified button-mashy control scheme. They also have plenty of singleplayer content and an art Gallery.
