It bothers me when folks want to define Native American by set factors like whether one grew up on a reservation, or were influenced by elders, how ceremonial they are, or their hair. All these are geared toward a stereotype. Does someone have to look like this to be “American”?

It’s time to meet the minds behind Powers Squared!
What inspires you?
What inspires us to work on Powers Squared is how it provides the opportunity to show identical twins in a different light, one that doesn’t largely lean on longstanding stereotypes.

This is consistent with widely held definitions of stereotype, such as those of David Theo Goldberg, who argues “The set of representations thus constructed and catalogued in turn confines those so defined within the constraints of the representational limits” 5/7

The suggestion is that Kitty has transferred a symbolic archetype onto Storm, intuitively, but -like all stereotypes- it’s one that limits Storm’s ability to operate as an individual with agency, rather than someone who simply internalizes the roles that others expect of her. 4/7

Of all those impacted by Storm’s transformation from Goddess to Punk, Kitty Pryde took it hardest, perceiving it as a betrayal. Interestingly, scholar André M. Carrington sees this as a symbolically important disentanglement of Storm from a Black caregiver stereotype 1/7

If it's then has to have a Big Bad Wolf; - stereotypes or diversity before its time? The characters were broad, but they weren't the butt of the joke, they're heroic; give an old character a son and a family - '80s trope.

What clique is my femboy bank robber OC Mr. Sin part of?
He’s the working class delinquent stereotype you find in Japan and Korea.
So he’s like the modern East Asian version of a greaser.
But he could also be a punk and hell even a gyaru.
