The name comes from the basket's likeness to the body of a snake.

To clarity I don't see it being like cormorants chasing its prey
But rather actively sneaking up on its prey rather than waiting

Maybe like a tenatcled snake using its body to curass a fish to striking distance rather than chasing it but a less dexterous form or larger in scale
