I love how you slowly inch forward throughout that zone, lighting torches and bringing the light further and further into the town itself, and as you got deeper and higher up, there was something horrid and gangly and skittering that retreated from your torch's flame...

To finish out the piece, I add in the jewelry and tattoos. Highlights and rim lights are added throughout the piece with a hard bush, and I finalize the special effects and lighting with some adjustment layers.

After seeing my idea come to life with color, I decide that the theme would work better with a slightly different outfit. As I build up the lighting I lean into more pink than red.

Tattered Apparition, my second card from the new MTG set: Dominaria United. I wanted to keep the palette subtle, so I could use the shapes and backlighting to add interest, and keep things clearly readable and defined, even for a night scene.
