I had a British accent in elementary school because I was weird and obsessed with The Great Mouse Detective and decided to be British

Usually with my characters, I try to establish a base color (no more than 2-3) before going into accents and leaving skin tone for last to make sure it works with the character's overarching pallete.

Dunno if they are that good but I mostly use gradients, some shine accents and line weight
Also I think it’s good to use “mist”, f.e make some things that are far from the viewer less saturated, I just paint them with background color
