But Slade's overall characterization just feels-- so damn off in this issue. Like really off. Maybe it's too much reading into Priest's run, but damn it's making me miss Priest's take more on this. Slade just feels less calculating in Annual and more cartoony.

It seems to be basic marketing that we are driven by what is "All-New" and "All-Different". In comic books, we get routine reboots and recharacterizations, but often short-lived as they cease being new and the IP has value that requires stability.

A specific goal of mine for the Rebirth Squad was to restore Harley's classic characterization and look. Rob brought back the humor and intelligence, and Jim embraced a 'Harley-fied' philosophy whereby she had no one costume, but a look that could apply to any outfit.
People who say that Shirou's characterization was ruined or sounding like a generic shounen protagonist in the UBW anime, seem to forget many of these moments where they got it right (even if lacking the hours of inner monologues from the VN).
