In those days, mirrors were polished by rubbing mercury and alum to obtain reflections. The surface would dim quickly and needed to be polished regularly.

Et voila the final effect

Note that tiny 8% glimmer is what gives the extra reflections to the sea depths. If I remove it everything is a lot flatter (image 2 without).

The next is essentially the reverse, I'm making a Screen Blend of the Shading to catch the sun reflections off the tops of hills etc.. it's tricky as it's very easy to end up with a plastic world.
