In Japanese myth, eating the flesh of a ningyo (a mermaid-like creature) grants longevity. In the fairy tale "Yao Bikuni," a fisherman's daughter eats ningyo & lives to be 800. But catching a ningyo is bad luck, so sailors usually throw them back into the sea.

In the Iraqi version of Cinderella, called "The Little Red Fish & the Clog of Gold," a girl befriends a talking fish she rescues from a fisherman's net. He gives her a dress & golden shoes so she can attend a party against her cruel stepmother's wishes.

A concept I had: merman Jin been stealing Fisherman yoomf bait- But in reality he’s stealing Yoongles sushi lunchbox smh.

this time Yoongi brought one just for Jin, pink and everything... Jin still took his..but yoong doesn’t seem to mind.

Some fisherman that catch and sell mermaids aren't always proud of what they've done.

Here’s a monster I designed for a class project. We read “The Twisted Ones” by T. Kingfisher and I decided to take a stab at designing the “Hoarding Doll Effigy” monster. It was a great book and I had a blast.

One of my fave panels from my entry to the webtoon contest Tale of a Fisherman's Wife!

To win a part of the judging is community so if you could give it a like, maybe a comment or sub that would mean so much!

L is for Llamhigyn Y Dwr, a giant water leaping creature from Welsh mythology that drags fishermen to their deaths. The only thing more terrifying for me is trying to pronounce its name.

Another heroic local figure who we have the pleasure of exploring the life of on Hull Curriculum is Lillian Bilocca, who along with the wives of other trawlermen, campaigned to make conditions safer and fairer for fishermen at sea
