I don't (usually) intend it, but more often than not, I end up making sure either one or both of my OCs' ears are visible in their design, mainly pulling it behind their ears (that's how I used to and still do wear my hair). Some behind-the-scenes stuff: a lot of the time I fully model an environment to create a "photo", and the age of the photo helps to hide the rendering artifacts. The only downside is that there is usually a lot of detail in the scene that doesn't make it to the final image.
