Another example that I kinda have this thought about is when I started playing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles again last week. Not full on chibi, but chunky kinda designs with a lot of messier shape language is so much cooler to me than the realism stuff. FF9 does this some too

my fursona's design from when i was 11-12 wasn't even that bad and i actually still quite like it!
but to be fair, i was following a cookie sorta theme (considering the name "choccookie" xD) and without that theme, the colours would've been a lil messier
