1869年に東京-横浜を繋ぐ公衆電信線の架線工事が始まったことから。かつては電気通信省(現:総務省、NTT等)の名前から「電気通信記念日」という名前だったけど、電信･電話の浸透からこの名前になったんだ(日本電信電話=NTT)

本日１０月２３日は電信電話記念日
明治2年(1869年)に東京-横浜間の電信線架設工事に着手したことを記念し、1950年に電気通信省が制定しました。
当初は電気通信省にちなんで電気通信記念日と称していましたが、後に電電公社に移行し電信電話の呼称が一般となった折に改称されました。
