Dragon Knight Morde is actually quite interesting. Skin tone's more purple, more saturation, rebalancing of his armor (shoulder, chest), and some face/helmet changes. Interesting part is Maki's final version is mirrored.

I keep ahold of a human musculature sheet for reference. I usually line the muscles or bone structure with a lighter shading tone, fade the edges a little, then do the actual shading, following what I think is the curvature of the back.

-- Someone suggested I tone down the beefiness of my Doomguy. So, I tried to make some changes, but it all kinda fell apart after. Honestly, this phase kinda sucked the wind out of my sails so scrapped it. Sadly, the painting got shelved for a while after that.
