🐢World Turtle Day🐢
Tortoises are briefly discussed by Thomas de Cantimprato in De natura rerum libri XX. Turtles are painted in both of our manuscripts, ie XIV A 15 from end of 14th century and X A 4 from first quarter of 15th century. Both turtles look a bit like monsters.

What unites manuscripts VIII A 3 (Bible of the scribe Zikmund) and IX D 3 (Isidorus Hispanensis)? It is the personality of the "painter." In fact, we don't know much about him - we don't know his name. Perhaps only that he worked in Bohemia at the beginning of the 15th century.

In the breviary NatLibCZ VI F 12a from the first half of the 14th century, various monsters settled in initials! All are the work of a single painter, perhaps a scribe of the manuscript itself. Although their quality is not very high, it brings a great revival to the manuscript.

Luís Vaz de Camões (1524-1580), considered the greatest poet of the Portuguese language, is best remembered for his epic work “Os Lusíadas.” On a voyage to Goa, he was shipwrecked near the Mekong river delta and managed to save his manuscript & himself, but not his girlfriend.
