tried soft cell shading again with a doodle of swain from league and i like it a bit better than last time i tried it lmao
stuck two different gradient maps over it to see what'd they do and here are the results

Lot of firsts in this one for me. First time drawing a fox, an actual face which doesn't look completely distorted, no airbrush used in this one, and an actual background instead of a gradient. So, I'm happy with how it turned out.

Also made a small color edit version. Played around with the gradient map tool and during the tweaking process I really liked this really blown out combination of colors.

I didn’t intend this from the start but with the brush I was using I couldn’t get too much gradience and ended up focusing on the character and story without noticing it. It was fun 🐕✨

Oh yeah not a fan of Miller's art either, just think the design is nice and original. Here's an exemple of his design by a different artist, Brian Stelfreeze. I like his take on the design even more, with the gradient colors.

Start with a big base colour gradient, base colour the body (that way the bg colour shows through too), basic shading, then go in detail with the eyes, face and hands (that's where the eyes are normally drawn to), then finally do whatever you want.
