Another interesting tidbit, In JoJolion, Tsurugi's hair color gradually changes throughout the part, from a bright one (Colored entirely green in the colored manga) to a dark one with bright highlights (Black with Green highlights in the CM)

Base, shading on both ends, lighter color for highlights in middle, then a big curve across with an even lighter color and erase some parts on low opacity :D

For traditional just slap some gradients of selected color and leave the middle blank and hope it looks good >.>
