Sunglasses, Lake Lucerne (1936), Summer Day at the Lake, Germany (1935) & Naxos, Greece (1936). Part of the attraction of Ancient Greece was its acceptance of homosexuality. He created a nostalgic vision in sharp contrast to the persecution of gay men & women in Germany.

in 1897, architect Martín Domínguez Esteban was born in San Sebastián, Spain. Along with Carlos Arniches and engineer Eduardo Torroja he designed the Hipódromo de la Zarzuela (1936). Due to the Civil War, he exiled to Cuba and then, to the US (he taught at ).

Mario Sironi ‘The Builder’ (1936). I loved this huge painting on paper - a preparatory ‘cartoon’ for a mural - seen at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna, Rome. Sironi was sadly a Fascist, but I still appreciate the bold simplicity of this work.

To the revival of OCs from when we were 12, I bring you Tyra's older brother, C.J. Isaac. They are not on speaking terms. C.J. is a MMA master with fierce speed, though he's lost a step from his advanced age (as he's 36). Works as a photographer on the side.

Introducing new working-class poet: Peter Kier, watch maker from Falkirk, published this elegy for his son in *Chambers's* (19 Nov 1836). The editorial headnote introduces Kier as a "humble" poet from a "mechanical profession."

‘Danaë’ by Rembrandt (1636). In Greek mythology, Danaë is the mother of Perseus. Zeus impregnated her in the form of a golden rain.

Although the artist's wife Saskia was the original model for Danaë, Rembrandt later changed the figure's face to that of his mistress Geertje Dircx
