John Gould (1804-1881) was the outstanding British ornithologist of the 19th century. He made a pioneering study of Australian birdlife and published his descriptions with superb illustrations in The Birds of Australia (1840-1848)

This is a rare bird species for Malta...a Blyth's Reed-warbler which was ringed by one of BirdLife Malta's ringers on Gozo earlier this week. It is only the 5th record for Malta!

This Isabelline Shrike was one of the precious few that pass through Israel on migration, mainly in autumn, usually in the Northern valleys and especially at wetlands.
