Happy #WorldFrogDay! Can you believe this frog is ~40 million years old? In 1873 the French naturalist Henri Filhol described this fossil frog discovered from the Quercy Phosphorites of southwestern France. The specimen preserved the frog's soft tissues as an external cast. (1/3)

This fossil of the earliest known predator was found in Charnwood Forest, where Sir David Attenborough grew up looking for fossils, and was named in his honour.

Speculative biology is always going to be a facet of paleomedia. Just comes with the territory trying to fill in the blanks on what the fossils can't tell. What's some of your favorite speculative biology in paleomedia? Stuff that we can't know for sure, but has some fun to it.
This is the first major scientifically-based pictorial representation of prehistoric life. Based on fossils found by Mary Anning, it depicts prehistoric Dorset, as imagined in watercolour by geologist Henry De la Beche in 1830, At R, later revised lithograph by George Scharf
@Mat4265 ooh ooh i can join in on this!! i have my convergent fossil species based on slowpoke! :)

New werewolf boy! Gonna call him Diego :D
He’s 27 and prefers his wolf form to his human form. Loves archaeology. Definitely one of those guys with an extensive fossil collection
For #FossilFriday, one of the most complicated fossils I had to scan in my career: this #Iguanodon on top of the hill in the "field exhibition" at the @RBINSmuseum! Climbing more than 2 meters above the other skeletons was such an experience! But it was worth it! @UniversiteLiege

Among my favourite animals are #ICHTHYOSAURS - the 'fish lizards' - and it's always a joy to look at their fossils (we have many of them in the UK). So I _loved_ compiling current thinking on them for my new book Ancient Sea Reptiles, out now from @NHM_London and @SmithsonianBook
...because it's pretty generic without them. The fossil record holds animals that are way more awesome, arresting and potentially scarier than 65's fictional creations and, in my mind's eye, I was watching a far superior version with animals like these...

hi #LateNightWrite!
Collecting and finding fossils brings me joy, but in terms of creating it's seeing my characters realised both in prose and visual. I've become increasingly happier about how I depict Yara and the things she does https://t.co/tTexArLEoM
