@brandonbovia imagine thinking that Yoichi Kotabe's art is nothing short of charming
Drawing Wario everyday until there's a new Wario Land game day 9.
Wario Land 2 time! I attempted Kotabe again, might go and try it for each Land game, and uh... i forgot what i was gonna put here. so stan captain syrup i guess?
Drawing Wario everyday until there's a new Wario Land game day 8.
Continuing the trend of attempting Kotabe style! I'm actually super proud of this one! I had references, but there was no reference on the screen at the same time as the drawing! All from memory, babey!
Drawing Wario everyday until there's a new Wario Land game day 7.
One whole week's worth! I woke up early and decided, since I couldn't go back to sleep, to do it early! I attempted a Kotabe style Wario, and I'm still working on it, but I'm proud of this one!
Drawing Geno every day until he's in a new game Day 94
I tried to replicate Yoichi Kotabe's style for the Mario character icons. Especially the ones used for the life counters in Super Mario 3D World.

In the new Yoichi Kotabe exhibition that opened yesterday in Japan, you can see some of his works for Nintendo. He made the relooking of Mario. He also created Wario and Yoshi designs.

@ProZD My style is like Kotabe-san’s in the slightest. I just want to post my Mario fanart in a thread that’s getting a lot of exposure!
You have a good day, Cho-senpai, and good luck to everyone submitting for the job!
@altermentality Yoichi Kotabe’s Mario art and Ken Sugimori’s watercolor art are some of my favorite kinds of official gaming artwork. Kotabe’s great at expressions and poses. Really brings Mario & friends to life. I love how edgy and distinct Sugimori’s art looks and the man’s a watercolor wiz.
My aim is to make the illustrations somewhat similar to Yoichi Kotabe's. This is a quick drawing I made with that in mind :)
so after discussing we can all agree that Mario's 3D renders which have been around since the Wii Era are BORIIIING
but Yoichi Kotabe's 2D mario art is great and they should just keep doing that, right? Right.
@ProZD Admittedly have dabbled mainly in Paper Mario, but I love Yoichi Kotabe's style and it definitely influenced mine growing up, so I'd love to try and replicate it, honestly
In a 2018 interview with the French magazine Le Monde, og Mario artist Yoichi Kotabe stated that he based Bowser's finalized design on the Chinese Softshell Turtle, as he knew it to be a particularly aggressive breed of turtles https://t.co/I7VYD5BQ8p
Concept art by Yōichi Kotabe for Heidi, Girl of the Alps (1974), dir. Isao Takahata, Nippon Animation
A beloved classic around the world, Heidi was a huge boost to the careers of Isao Takahata and an up-and-coming Hayao Miyazaki -- the duo that went on to co-found Studio Ghibli
@TheRealSibsy The new stuff manages to perfectly recapture the feeling of Kotabe’s original art while also branching out and making it a bit more expressive, it’s exciting every time they release a new piece for little occasions!
@ringra15 Mine are a weird hodgepodge of things I like. Kotabe’s 90’s Mario art, Sugimori’s watercolor art, 80’s anime boxart, and then there’s Kirby.
At that point, I really think something akin to Kotabe's artstyle could help justify the design modernization and keep the distinctive outlines while also getting a lot more lively with its presentation of characters and giving Mario's 2D artwork the spotlight it deserves
