Drawing underrated prehistoric animals 6/?: Prionosuchus, a very large temnospondyl (amphibian) from the early Permian period. It’s shaped a bit like a gavial, and I think it’s an interesting case of convergent evolution.

For I am opening a thread about Early Triassic tetrapod faunal assemblages. After the Permian extinction, terrestrial faunal assemblages were depauperate and most were very similar in composition. Temnospondyls were quick to diversify

It's been pretty frosty lately, so this week's post is on (southern) polar temnospondyls! Based largely on historic work by Hammer, Cosgriff, Colbert and recent work by https://t.co/NCmDKhO9Ky Pic: Antarctosuchus; Sidor et al. (2014)

I don't do resolutions, but I'd like to do more in 2019, so for the first of the year, I'm kicking off a blog on my personal website: https://t.co/NCmDKi5KC6 talking about...#temnospondyls! Temnospondyls are cool! They deserve more attention! (1/2)

As expected I couldn’t stop thinking about the newly described GIANT dicynodont Lisowicia, and started sketching. I imagined a couple of them on an tranquil Triassic afternoon surrounded by coelophysioid dinosaurs and probably a large temnospondyl

Siderops was a Temnospondyl from Australia. Here, we see one of them clutching to the rocks of a small river, lying in wait to ambush anything that swims (or walks) too close to its giant, toothy mouth.
