狩野一信の「五百羅漢図」は、西洋画風の陰影法など新しい手法が用いられてることが知られている。
一信は1863年に48歳で没しているので、長寿であれば近代を代表する画家になっていたかもしれない。近世から近代への連続性はやはり重要。
画像は東京国立博物館に展示中のもの。増上寺版より小さい。
