Merry Christmas | Nollaig Shona Duit!

As it’s Christmas Eve I wanted to explore beautiful images of angels in art. Angels appear in Irish mythology & in Celtic folklore to the extent that Irish people put angels on top of their Christmas trees rather than fairies.

-HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE
-Tooth fairies? Hogfathers?
-YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES
-So we can believe the big ones?
-YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.

“Fairies hide everywhere as beings and things that would surprise you, always before us even though it seems that our eyes deceive us.
The important thing is to believe that they are there."

One of the first artists who had an impact on me was Tony DiTerlizzi. I loved how his fairy character designs referenced real life plants and animals, to create fairies and mermaids that weren't just humans with insect wings or fish tails, but something entirely new and unique
