tip: there's lots of ways to tackle sprite art!
lately i've been sketching designs i'm not sure about before i sprite them
also, some artists use a "blocking in/refining" method to sprite but i personally find (admittedly creepy) guidelines helpful!

@Paul_Steenkamp My brother and I used the same method and we used to share the kitchen table when doing homework. A line of defence involving salt cellars, sugar bowls and jugs was constructed to create ‘me’ space. We were expert sharers!

Bottom left,I mix colors to make a palette and I mainly color pick from there. This helps me keep my color palette harmonious. I can add more color to my swatch and test it so I know how it looks in my subject(blue rocks). I use this method to as an assist,not a rule
