Pokemon was another major way I escaped from my horrible situation as a child. I love how kind the series is and how much emphasis is placed on befriending your monsters. It really is so much fun for kids to play, and as an adult, the nostalgia is powerful.
Since Splatoon 1 and 2 takes place in the 11th millennium, I thought the sea animals from the freshwater (or saltwater), to become walking-land mammals since all humans and animals on land (except birds) all went extinct and soon replaced by sea animals that will evolve later.
