I put the flat colors first after the lineart with 1 layer for each color, then I duplicate the flat color, make it a clipping mask, and paint the shadows and highlights with a watercolor paint brush. If needed, I blend it with a blend brush or a blur brush too

Considering making a "Randomago Dex" with around 50 premade evolution designs.
I have 3 samples of "Linear Hatchlings" (the designs from the initial concept) and 2 sample of "Branching Hatchling" (new pic on the right)
