, I just finished up Art 1's final assignments and my favorite was the 4B assignment where we photoshop pieces from other pictures to make atmospheric perspective. I hope I did it right. Included are the finished project and the refs.

The solution is applying the photoshop halftone filter to a solid 50% gray, and then blend it over the image with "overlay." Fakes the effect well enough without having to split out the color channels.
