When this series was announced, I was kind of hoping they'd aim for slightly more realistic character designs. Kind of like the ones used in the MIB cartoon or the 1998 Godzilla cartoon. Ya know, something that would aim for a moderately stylized look? Was hoping more for that.

They're making a live action/CG Tom & Jerry movie that is set to come out this December.

It's going to be in the vein of films like Roger Rabbit and Space Jam.

So it's CG but they're going to stylize it and add hand drawn elements so the characters look like "vintage 2D"

the best type of character design is best summed up as "stylized modern streetwear outfits that look like normal clothes that could reasonably exist, but that are unfortunately not real"

Even with super stylized stuff like these, I think using a lot of reference is important to capture the “essence” of the animal, even if you are very familiar with their anatomy already!!
