I originally wanted to make this into an animation, but I think I should focus on making a short Halo animation before the year ends, so here's a WW1 German machine gunner

#FlooftheSomme is a children's picture book, set in #WW1 during the Battle of the Somme and follows mercy dog Flo as she tries to lead Ray (from #WhereThePoppiesNowGrow) across no man's land to save injured pilots. A BIG FAV IN SCHOOLS!
#OTD 1916 The Battle of the Somme ended.
This is the one I really like, it’s a recreation of. Magritte’s The Great War, referring to WW1 in which a beautiful woman has funeral flowers over her face, the text written out is Magritte’s advice to the communist party in art, not to be too dogmatic or avoid joy
‘Goodnight love God bless you and my children and may He soon send me back to those I love is the wish of your Faithful Husband xxxxxxxxx Jack’
Pte. Jack Mudd was killed 4 days later.

A couple years ago I worked on the Richmond First World War Stories project. I illustrated 12 aspects of how WW1 affected the Richmond area. #LestWeForget #RemembranceDay2020
As we remember on #ArmisticeDay I am always drawn to this as the day that Susan Owen #WilfredOwen's mother was informed of his untimely death. I cannot imagine the emotions she must have felt as the bells were ringing out for the end of #WW1.

When WW1 began, Jessie Margaret Akehurst already had fourteen years nursing experience under her belt. Her scrapbook is filled with patients distracting themselves, drawing and writing poems. Explore more here: https://t.co/2A2oxm1DCR

"This is terribly moving. I have loved Wilfred Owen's poems since I was a schoolboy, but you have found a way to bring it to a new audience."

So this baby is based on a late WW1 "Fernsprecher" (lit. far speaker). Basically a wired field telephone. Radio was already a thing in the 30s (and much earlier) but you didn't really have civilian walkies available (the SCR-536 prototypes were 1938 for the military)
#MuseumsUnlocked #Day102 and the theme is #Cats. A shout out to Leyho’s 2018 WW1 exhibition ‘Chiens Bleus, Chiens Gris’ here at the gallery and to the much missed #RobertFisk who reviewed the show https://t.co/F9AdFblHO2 #oliviercornetgallery #leyho #comicbook
