For base layers, instead of a soft rounded brush, I mainly use a soft, roughly rectangular-shaped brush & apply a grainy texture to it.
I find it adds a nice amount of rawness while still blending smoothly when needed!

did you know that the eye underneath kaeya’s eyepatch looks like this in game? if you look closely, you can see that it is actually the texture used for his gloves.

I like to stain the canvas with various different colors to create this sort of "noise" in the picture where the paint doesn't adhere properly due to the bold brushwork and the texture, so I choose the color according to the palette of the painting, like I did in these:

The shape of the eyes will be mesh, the pupils will be textured, and the sudden deformation will be replaced by another component. For the blink, I plan to widen the surface around the eye mesh and use that in place of the eyelashes
