i use a multiply layer for shading and a screen or soft light layer for highlights/lighting. also, gradients and the airbrush tool are my best friends. also, yellow. i somehow manage to put yellow in almost all my art.

Another fun fact: if I’m not doing an elaborate background, I use gradients (though sometimes I make a standard blue sky). The colour of these gradient backgrounds are usually a complementary colour to the most prevalent colour - ie these pics

Decent attempt on creating these getups! However if there's something I have to criticize, it would be your use of gradients.

For shading something as simple as plain clothes, you really don't need gradients; you could actually shade it like this. Keep going!
