1868年、新政府軍と旧幕府側が戦った戊辰戦争で会津藩の白虎隊が飯盛山で自刃しました

若松城の城下町で上がった火が若松城と重なって見え、落城したと勘違いしてしまったと言われています

地球を見続ける姿と、常に太陽を向いている向日葵を重ねてその名がつきました

気象衛星により、地球外からの気象観測や防災に必要な情報を得ることができるようになりました

兵庫県明石市を通る東経135度を日本標準時と定め、1888年1月1日から時刻が統一されました

国内には標準時が1つしか存在しないので時差はありませんが、日本の東端と西端では経度に約30度差があるので、計算上は約2時間の差があると言えます
