I have discovered from both the space orca and the derg flying beneath a gas giant that I really enjoy rendering the cosmos. It's actually kind of cathartic for me.

For example, when I painted Bunny Shiki earlier this year, I created a separate file for lighting ref, created a multiply and screen layer, and guessed where I thought the light would hit her. Then I did the painting on the real version based on that guess. If that makes sense.
