this shot was actually heavily inspired by western cartoons (Powerpuff Girls, Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force GO, Rise of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Lego Monkie Kid).
I also used TTGL as my primary source of reference, specifically Hiroyuki Imaishi's animation approach.

The left ones are the original works and the right works are by a certain artist. They HEAVILY reference other artists' works, which is pretty problematic, but it's made worst since they are currently selling the gt piece as a print.
@ramendik Tsubaki and Aoi are in the anime though, they're college age and very heavily coded as a couple, so people are hoping that with the new girls breaking the mould we'll see more do so.
