The BG turned blue because I was so desperate to get the colors to be more vivid that I turned down highlights. But I also deliberately go for weirder effects sometimes.

Thanks for the thread!! I'm a traditional artist that works a lot in watercolors but I also use gouache & acrylics too! I really like doing pattern work & creating spacy effects w/ washes.
