A minor hobby I've adopted is finding low quality source image/old photos of anime art books and cleaning them up with the help of upscailing tools + Gimp.

It's messy and imperfect but it has some pretty decent yields. Here's Yuuko Aioi from Nichijou vs. The source image

another thing i like doing on phone doodles is creating a layer on top of everything, including the lineart, and using this as a "touchup layer", adding extra details, cleaning messy lines, etc... another trick that lets u worry less abt having messy lineart
