Recent conversations have led me back to revisiting one of my longtime favourites, Frank Frazetta.

So good, so inspiring. Colours transfer to models really well and just a treat to look at his work.

YES. It is so vital for any artist out there to inderstand that clients want illustrators who can illustrate characters but also environments which help to tell a story. Frank Frazetta is one my artist heroes who definitely nailed this skill.

The Frazetta horror style adds a great deal to the defining arc of Silvestri’s run (and possibly Claremont’s for that matter): Inferno, giving the hellish nightmare depicted a sense of spectacle that is genuinely hypnotic (even as it is terrifying), bordering on the sublime. 5/5

Marc Silvestri, who contributed to 56 issues of UXM, holds Frank Frazetta as his greatest influence. As such, the Frazetta style is all over Silvestri’s portion of the run, advancing the key themes of the era in significant ways. 1/5

Another blood-drenched cathartic gem is 's animated opus: Genndy Tartakovsky's PRIMAL - like a beautiful combo of Frazetta and Moebius by way of Alley Oop. Fantastic and surprisingly emotive, given there's not a word spoken!
