Oh SAME. What I have enjoyed doing is grabbing color palettes and playing with those! For shading, a friend taught me to set the layer to multiply, and it offers decent and quick shading if you aren't doing a painterly style. :) This was done with multiply shading actually.

(SFW) Quick update in that I'm considering coloring this upcoming sketchdump properly; I said that I wouldn't in the interest of time, but it isn't IMPOSSIBLE to multiply the spectrum a tad. I'm torn on it tbh.
