It's #FolkloreThursday again! Which means I'm late, oops. There's another house fairy in this lot, my favourite mythical creature! The fact that they appear in folklore all over the world suggests to me that there's some truth in the idea.
✨💖✨An old English charm to discover who you would marry...
Count seven stars on seven consecutive nights, and the first person to shake your hand on the eighth day will be your future wife or husband!

In Finland, the Northern Lights are called "revontulet" or "fox fires". One old folktale tells of an Arctic fox running and scampering in the far north, throwing fire coloured lights up into the dark sky by sweeping frozen snow crystals upwards with his tail. #FolkloreThursday
#FolkloreThursday Tanabata is a star festival meaning ‘evening of the 7th.’ It marks the annual meeting on 7th July of the celestial star-crossed lovers, Orihime & Hikoboshi, who, according to Japanese legend, live on opposite sides of the Milky Way & are forbidden from meeting.
For this week’s #FolkloreThursday theme of the skies and the stars, here’s a little moon-gazey dragon from the depths of the northern Welsh forests.
In astrology the sign of Cancer rules bees, which adore the flowers of the linden or lime tree (tilia). Ruled by Freya, goddess of love, the flowers are used in love spells, & the linden is a symbol of fertility, luck & prosperity, as are bees. #FolkloreThursday Img: C. Barker
Good evening everyone! Tonight’s Dino of the day is jinfengopteryx! Jinfengopteryx was a theropod discovered in China 🇨🇳. It’s name means “golden Phoenix feather”, taken from “Jinfeng” in Chinese folklore. See you explorers tomorrow! 🤠

The #illustrator Vanga Gedmantaite-Galkuviene seems to speak her own visual symbolic language in these fascinating #illustrations for the Lithuanian #folktale “The Sun Princess and the Prince.” It appears in Folk Tales from the Soviet Union (1986). #folklore #vintage #kidlitart
Barghest is the grumpiest puppy. Depending on your lore he might be the herald of death or he might be the cause, as he snacks on the innocent. But only once a month, he's got a very strict diet. #ttrpg #pathfinder #DnD #folklore #illustration
