Yesterday marked the 60th anniversary of the terrible fire in Cheapside St Glasgow in which 19 brave firemen lost their lives. At least the current crisis has made us all more appreciative of all the people who enable us to enjoy the courtesies of decent and safe lives.

OTD in 1895 the artist Agnes Parker Miller was born Irvine.

In the 1930s Agnes became well known for her wood-engravings for book illustrations.

Agnes moved to Glasgow in 1955 and lived on Arran for a period of time before dying in 1980.
