this is just a sketch and isnt in layers or anything btw

but what are your guy's honest thoughts on the eyes? are they too far apart? too close? too big? is the angle weird? no matter what i do, the eyes always feel off. any (kindly worded) suggestions guys? :(

For base layers, instead of a soft rounded brush, I mainly use a soft, roughly rectangular-shaped brush & apply a grainy texture to it.
I find it adds a nice amount of rawness while still blending smoothly when needed!

Materials: I do most of my painting in acrylics on fine linen canvas. I love the smooth linen surface and like the robustness of acrylics for building up layers. I also like that it dries super quick so when I have an idea I can get on with it quickly. I’m not a good waiter �

I cheat a little when making different faces on a single character in the same shot:

• copy(then hide)4 layers (fills/shading/highlights/line art)
• paste
• select and move individual parts of line art
• patch gaps and overlap of line art
• correct fills/shading/highlights.
