A magnificent bird with a wingspan of up to 3.5 metres. Extinct in Britain due to habitat loss and human disturbance. Illustration, Edward Lear, 1837.
We live in wildlife poverty and most of us don't know it.

Kingfishers are highly territorial so there's not much time for fledgelings to learn how to fish before they are driven out of the adult's territory. These two had better start paying attention!
