250. Cosmic Star Heroine
#365faves
Zeboyd's sci-fi homage to Chrono Trigger was a heckuva lot of fun to play with its large cast of colorful characters and its evocative gameplay and battle tactics. I actually found some parts challenging, as well. The music was rad, too!
251. Mega Man 6
#365faves
There are a lot of Mega Man games, so why 6? I can remember the day I got it and the Toys R Us it came from. I can remember the smell of the air on the bus. The heat of the sidewalk. Taking it home and trying it with no preparation. Pure childhood.
253. Dragon Spirit
#365faves
A shmup that's not for spaceships or jets! This high fantasy dragon shmup is actually really creative and amazing with interesting power ups and a hidden easy mode (?). Definitely recommend trying it sometime.
254. Golf Story
#365faves
You played Earthbound without playing Earthbound if you've played certain indie comedy RPGs, and because of the nature of the derivative, they can be hit or miss. Golf Story is no bogey. The quirk wasn't cringe and it's a creative spin on a boring sport
255. GoNNER
#365faves
This visually distinct game caught my eye at a time when I was really familiarizing myself with roguelikes and lites, and it wound up becoming one of my favorites. I didn't mind dying over and over when playing the game was such a sad whale smiling joy.
257. Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster
#365faves
Assaulted on one end for not liking FFXIV very much, I'll be attacked on the other for a similar take about FF1! The 1st Final Fantasy is not very playable if you didn't grow up with it. Pixel Remaster is a BIG help (minus the font)!
318. Prince of Persia
#365faves
I've played innumerable versions of this game and I can't remember which I played first, but Prince of Persia was ubiquitous for me as a kid. I still enjoy revisiting it now and then. I realize I still really suck at it hahaha
319. In the Hunt
#365faves
Submarine side-scrolling shoot em up with Metal Slug tier sprite work! One of the games I discovered in the wild at an arcade as a kid and didn't re-encounter until many years later when I found a Switch port for it.
325. Pocket Fighter
#365faves
Capcom's bright, cartoonish visuals and the inclusion of Darkstalkers characters guaranteed that this one caught my eye in arcades but it was at home where I played a ton of it. Adding a greed element with gathering gems appealed to my inner Gollum.
330. Labyrinth: Maou no Meikyuu
#365faves
Pretty sure it was a fan translation I played this with since it was originally released for Famicom. Labyrinth is one of my favorite movies and a top-down adventure adaptation was sure to draw my attention. Had a rough time though!
331. Gunstar Heroes
#365faves
One of my favorite Genesis games where the spunk and attitude comes across as charming to me. Love the pace and energy of this game and it's really fun to play with another player!
345. Super Smash T.V.
#365faves
It doesn't get much more arcadey than a twin-stick shooter and this is an arcadey home console title that kept the vibe and the energy, despite the fact that the SNES didn't even have a single stick, never mind twins! This crap is hard though.
346. Mega Man X5
#365faves
Rockman has already appeared near the bottom of my list. Now it's X's turn. I liked MMX5 somewhat but it's also where the series lost me. I don't know what happened to the X run. It started so strong but... Duff McWhalen? What were they even thinking?!
349. Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage
#365faves
Maybe LJN's best? I'm not sure it's even beatable, but the comic strip intermissions, the multitudinous characters, and the grungy rock makes for the perfect setting for running around beating up goons dressed in 90s clothes.
354. Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara
#365faves
I've actually never played D&D (unless Final Fantasy counts) but I loved this once upon a time. I spy Capcom's name and it's an arcade beat 'em up w/ RPG touches, so that's enough for me! Plus, secrets galore~
355. Mega Man
#365faves
Not my first Mega Man but where the Mega Man started. Primitive and rudimentary without some of the key traits Rock would eventually see, I still love it for its foundational qualities. It hit the ground running with excellent music. PAL got best cover.
358. King's Knight
#365faves
Shmuppishness without the trains, planes, and automobiles, just a knight, wizard, thief, and lizardman thing walking north perpetually while trying to dodge stuff. I was surprised when I discovered this game and spotted Sakaguchi and Uematsu's names.
360. Fire Emblem Heroes
#365faves
Spent quite a bit of time recently with this one. Believe it or not, it's the only FE on my 365-entry list (cuz I haven't played any FE). Collecting waifus and skirmishing brief little tactical battles is actually pretty fun when you go poo.
362. Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts
#365faves
So hard, it's a game I've decided I will probably never beat (two times through, that is). But it's 16-bit Capcom. KING! The music and animations are utterly iconic to me and the sheer challenge just adds to the undead mystique and intrigue.
