For the final #FossilFriday of #Arachtober - and given it's nearly halloween - let's meet a fossil parasite! This beautiful tick was preserved in Eocene (~44–49 million year old) amber, and was reconstructed in 3D by using high resolution CT. Fossil left, digital render right.
Arachtober is here! Banner by Ashley Bradford and Joseph Connors. Blog post by me....https://t.co/gvVQ25IhQN #Arachtober
Welcome to the 15th year of #Arachtober! Celebrate arachnids with us by sharing your photos of spiders, scorpions, and other arachnids all month. We're glad to see growing arachnid enthusiasm around the web!

Spiders are COOL. Some walk on water, some hunt like cats & some stick their bums in the air, squirt out silk, & fly away on the wind like a balloon🎈🕷️
Annually, the world's spiders eat the equivalent of the entire human population's weight in insects!😎(3/4) #Arachtober
#Arachtober Another jumping spider. Even though their brains are the about size of poppyseeds, some research suggests that they're capable of visualizing and stalking prey, planning paths, and other cognitive feats.
A lot of science folks are posting some superb spider photos for #Arachtober so I thought I'd resurrect a few of my rather less scientific sketches. Maybe next year 31 spiders and their handlers...
Horseshoe Crab, who just recently joined the chelicerate gang #Arachtober

Brazilian Red Birdeater Tarantula
(Lasiodora difficilis)
This male tarantula is named "Cash". I don't know how anyone could look at this species and not fall in love. I mean look at those eyes and "feet"!
#Arachtober × #WeDrawSpiders inspired by this 2018 paper, "Roly-Poly Egg Sacs: Isopods Used as Replacement Egg Sacs by the Wolf Spider Pardosa valens" (https://t.co/aNkhTuqNF7)
New mom spoods will be available soon in my Etsy shop, baby spoods available in their own little matchboxes

Sneak preview of what I'm working on at the moment! These are tiny developing Steatoda nobilis spiders and I've been photographing the open egg sac since 1st October. #Arachtober #TurnFear2fascination #Educate and #LoveSpiders
Whether arachnid-inspired work is ok for #Arachtober or not, Since I don't have many good photos, here's the recent arachnid #Arthrogirls I've done.
As the second-most speciose class of arthropods, I always think that arachnids should deserve more positive inspiration.
