Archipenko was known for his pioneering experiments with colour, using vibrant colours for many of his sculptures and two-dimensional works.

Nicolay Diulgheroff, the Bulgarian artist and prominent representative of interwar Italian Futurism died in Turin in 1982.
His painting Woman at a Window, 1927, is in our current exhibition where it creates a dialogue with Alexander Archipenko’s sculpture, Reclining.

In works like this one Archipenko constructed his figures by adjoining conical elements, employing collage and a variety of pigments (pastel, chalk) to better visualise the effect of the curved surfaces.
