A John Byrne technique I loved as a kid was when he'd use the bottom of the panel as the floor of the shot. The only other cartoonist I'd seen do that was Albert Uderzo in Asterix.

Time to go epic with Justin Gerard's blockbuster Glaurung and the Dwarf King (2011). I'm particularly struck here by the neo-Roman aesthetic of the Belegost Dwarves, flame and shadow meets uber-Asterix. Check out the fire-proof guys with the murmillo-style dragon helms

Asterix comes from the fun world of European comics. It goes back about 60 years now, I think. I didn't know about the Asterisk and Obelisk connection in typography.

As with Tintin, I'm only passing familiar with Asterix. Something I should explore some day.

Asterix was a big part in my childhood. The artwork of Albert Uderzo was an inspiration not just for fun entertaining story telling but how through the entire series one is improving themselves from start to end.
