Late posting for the January prompt is my sketch of the Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius). This member of the crow family will imitate the vocalizations of birds of prey such as mewing like a common buzzard and cackling like a northern goshawk.

Day 2 attempt of left-handed (my non-dominant hand) drawing working up to the project prompt for December 28 of a Bluejay. Focused on the close-up of the head. Can feel a shift in my brain and some improvement in fine-motor skills.

Saw my first Carolina Wren at the end of fall. Learned they don't migrate like typical birds. Their range expands & those that end up in Michigan during years of mild winters end up dying in a bitter cold snap. It was the saddest thing I learned in a long time.

For the September photo prompt of a Pine Warbler. I changed the perch to a Norway Spruce, a tree introduced to North America from central and Northern Europe.

I had an embarrassing time slip last week and tried to post my eastern bluebird for early. 🤣 Turns out this gave me a chance to try another bit looser version. Trying to get the bird too look less - heavy.

Oh my! I have internet issues for a couple of days & come back to a boatload of notifications! It’ll take me a while to sort thru all this, so I’ll repost a few old faves for Day 5 of 10-day joyful art share. I’ll go w/ birds, any artists care to join in too?
